The radio equipment...already in place on tracks and locomotive
  13. May 14, 2015 Amtrak train crash ranted about gay rights, train safety: 'I wish the railroads had been more proactive' New York Daily News  Amtrak engineer Brandon Bostian has long posted online rants about the lack of rail safety systems  He's obsessed with trains, but Brandon Bostian can’t remember what happened to the one he was controlling when it went hurtling off the tracks at over 100 mph. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said he thinks Bostian bears at the very least some of the blame. “I don’t think any common-sense, rational person would think it was OK to travel at that speed knowing there was a restriction on how fast you could go through that turn,” he said. Philadelphia police said Bostian refused to answer their questions on Wednesday May 13. Goggin  insisted his client is “cooperating fully,” Amtrak as an assistant conductor nearly 10 years ago, working the Chicago-to-St. Louis route. He was promoted to engineer in 2010.  he was quoted in the Midtown Gazette speaking out in favor of marriage equality. “It’s kind of insulting to have to beg people for my right to marry,” he was quoted as saying. “I feel like we shouldn’t even have to have this fight.

  15. May 14, 2015 update Unexplained deliberate, accidental or mechanical problem Amtrak acceleration into crash curve Amtrak train that crashed in Philadelphia on Tuesday, May 12, 2015  The attorney for Bostian, the engineer at the controls of the train, said Thursday,  his client has no recollection of the accident. Brandon Bostian, the Amtrak engineer on the speeding train that derailed on a curve, killing eight passengers and injuring more than 200 in Philadelphia, is a passionate rail advocate who has supported stronger industry safety standards.... train aficionado at least since grade school outside Memphis and through his years at the University of Missouri in Columbia in the early 2000s... roommates recalled his playing on a rail simulator in his room and talking about trains in casual conversation.  train data recorder and a camera set up in the locomotive showed the train’s speed rapidly and steadily increasing in the last 65 seconds before the crash. [consistent with deliberate crash, he should have been slowing to curve, not slamming on brakes at last second]  the train was traveling faster than 70 mph 65 seconds before impact. At 43 seconds before impact, it exceeded 80 mph. At 31 seconds, it had increased to 90 mph. Sixteen seconds before impact, it topped 100. Amtrak engineer agrees to interview, only remembers putting on the brakes but nothing after that Bostian had suffered a concussion and other injuries in the derailment, and had 15 staples in his head, as well as stitches in his leg... “knocked out” in the crash Tuesday night, but recalls regaining consciousness... “He remembers coming into the curve. He remembers attempting to reduce speed thereafter. He does not remember deploying the emergency brake.” The NTSB has concluded that Bostian applied the emergency brake several seconds before the crash... shouldn’t take an act of Congress to get industry to adopt common-sense safety systems on their own,” Bostian wrote of the 2008 Metrolink train crash in the Chatsworth section of Los Angeles that killed 25 people and injured 135 after an engineer ran a red stop signal while texting on his cellphone.
  16. May 14, 2015 Don't blame the Amtrak driver or Germanwings copycat? comments: He's been driving trains for nine years.  It's not like he got a promotion and decided, "Now I have a chance to crash one."  He could easily have ended an amputee or a quad as killing himself.  It's possible there was a mechanical issue or that he fell asleep.  Apparently, the union has been complaining about new work schedules that were putting tired men at the controls. At this point, we don't know if malfeasance, error, mechanical problems, sabotage or fatigue was to blame.  Certainly, if he was responsible, he deserves jail time, but even so, others might have to go too... Its being reported now that the train sped up a minute before hitting that curve. Seems this guy was trying to prove a point he has been talking about during the recent past about how the system lacks protective features. Nice going idiot... hours ago Fredo This guy was the Anreas Lubitz of Amtrak. He never intended to need a lawyer or have to explain himself to anyone... Sometimes a total obsession is not a good sign. Plus he's a tail gunner..Look at all the white people circling the wagons around this innocent cherub :-\  Take a moment to look at the evidence before you canonize this criminal. The train was traveling at excessive speed as it entered the turn in violation of speed limits.  Why are so many people ready to forgive this white man? Why are so many white people not paying attention to the actions of this white man? He lawyered up almost immediately. He conveniently forgets what happened, because of a supposed concussion.
