September 7, 2015  1 dead 4 injured, 1 arrested Lawyer Shot in Head in West Indian Day Parade violence At the Brooklyn West Indian  J’Ouvert Festival, Carey Gabay and his brother were walking by an argument when shots were fired, and was struck in the head. NYPD said Gabay was “an unintended target” who was caught in the crossfire of two suspected gang groups [cover action which masks deliberate targeting] and ”ducked behind a parked car, but was still struck in the top of the head at about 3:40 a.m, just before the start of  festival at 4 a.m. Gabay was a lawyer for Empire State Development Corp was formerly assistant counsel to Governor Andrew Cuomo. Later two others were shot and  a 24-year-old man was fatally stabbed as a 21-year-old man was grazed by a bullet during another shooting, and a 39-year-old was shot twice in the torso. Gabay is Jamaican and grew up in public housing in the Bronx, and was educated at  Harvard. The governor called it a random event.
