Looks like a carefully planned domestic terrorist ambush attack by Hispanic gang member on police staged as mental illness attack and domestic disturbance as a lure. No authorities are calling this a terrorist attack.

Saturday October 8, 2016. 2 killed, one injured suspect arrested. 2016 Palm Springs California Shooting Two Police Killed  Four officers responded in Palm Springs, California when a woman reported a problem with her adult son, and the father of the suspect ran across the street to warn a neighbor. The Washington Post officers were called to the home just after an occupant had rushed across the street for help in a panic, telling a neighbor neighbor Frances Serrano that his son had a gun and wanted to shoot police.  When police at the front door were negotiating to resolve the situation peacefully, the suspect suddenly pulled out a gun and fired through a closed door without provocation.Two officers were shot to death, a third was wounded. Killed were Officers Jose “Gil” Vega, 63, and woman officer Lesley Zerebny, 27.  When suspect was found in his home, there was a 12 hour standoff with SWAT as suspect John Felix, 26 was barricaded in the family home with no response. When chemical agents were deployed, the fled out the back door, wearing soft body armor with many high-capacity magazines. Police arrested Felix after shooting him with non-lethal rounds.   He was previously sentenced to four years in prison for a 2009 attempted murder plot as a gang member in which he confessed to assault with a firearm. Felix and another suspect managed to shoot their target who survived.  He was also arrested in 2013 for fighting with police on the same doorstep where Saturday’s shooting occurred and accused of resisting arrest  (latimes:) This is the worst incident in the history of Palm Springs in terms of officer shootings. .the last time a Palm Springs officer was killed in the line of duty was in the 1960s.  He is described by neighbors as mentally ill.  The father of Felix said that Felix  told him he wanted to shoot police just before the attack.
