Matthew Riehl Colorado Ambush Police Attack --- ===

December 31, 2017 Matthew Riehl Colorado Ambush Police Attack Iraq war veteran Matthew Riehl who was known to local police but had no criminal record lured police with a domestic violence call after roomates warned he was acting bizarre and having a mental breakdown. Police arrived a second time with 4 deputies at 5:30AM , but Riehl locked himself in a room and then shot at the police with a gun, killing one and wounding 3 through their ballistic vests. He also shot 2 civilians before he was killed by a police tactical team in a military style firefight. His motives were unclear but he had posted a ranting anti-police video on youtube wanting to run for office opposing the sherrif who he called a "pimp".

Details: Multiple deputies were wounded along with two civilians as they were lured and responded to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex Highlands Ranch, about 20 miles south of Denver.   The first 911 call was made by Riehl's roommate, who told authorities Riehl was acting strangely and might be having a mental breakdown. Responding deputies to that call found no evidence of a crime and left. There was a noise complaint call about 3 a.m., but when deputies got there, there was no noise.  responded to a "verbal disturbance" between two men from Riehl's apartment, located 16 miles south of Denver. One suspect said the Riehl "was acting bizarre and might be having a mental breakdown." Authorities left after they didn't find any evidence of a crime, but they called again as a domestic disturbance. Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock verified the authenticity of the videos and said the 911 call made by Riehl was the second one from his apartment in Highlands Ranch on Sunday.  5:30 AM early morning New Year's Eve.  Before the shooting, Riehl made videos showing himself calling 911 and then opening his apartment door and talking to responding officers.  The footage , livestreamed on Periscope, was obtained by Denver's KUSA-TV. The station broadcast clips from two videos in which Riehl says he would not hurt anyone except to defend himself before calling authorities. 5:35 a.m. the four deputies had arrived at the scene. roommate (domestic partner) gave police keys to the home and permission to enter the apartment, then left the scene.   authorities arrive at Riehl's suburban Denver apartment, the footage shows him talking to at least two officers, telling them he wants to file an emergency restraining order against his domestic partner. He is upset when one officer offers to give him a phone number to call, and leaves the doorway to go back into a room.   At another point, Riehl is seen holding a glass in his hand and says he's had two scotches. He is heard saying that drinking would help him defend himself if someone bothers him

They tried to talk to Riehl, who barricaded himself in a bedroom before he suddenly  opened fire with a rifle, hitting four deputies in the apartment. He fired more than 100 rounds in his apartment on sheriff's deputies, killing one and injuring 3  wounded officers managed to get away but had to leave Parrish behind because of their injuries and the ongoing gunfire, another officer wounded later. Two civilians also were shot and the suspect was shot and killed later by police. two wounded civilians were not in the apartment. The deputies were wearing ballistic vests but were shot in areas the vests didn't cover. suspect was killed about 90 minutes later during a shootout when a tactical team went into the apartment,

The suspect has been named as Matthew Riehl-More, 37. He was later shot dead. He was identified as an honorably discharged Iraq war veteran. He was well known to law enforcement because of online threats on facebook using alias “Matt Gonzo” but had no criminal record who had posted a anti-police video wanting to run for office to replace Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock and railing against the sheriff and other officers in profane, highly personal terms.  two weeks earlier, Riehl said he was a libertarian candidate for the Douglas County Sheriff’s position in a YouTube video, which was titled, “Fire Sheriff Spurlock.” In the clip he claimed Deputy Brian Briggs was a “pimp.”  Riehl was a veteran who did a tour of Iraq in 2009 until 2010. He was honorably discharged two years later.Race is apparently partial Asian or Hispanic.  down almost within seconds of each other, so it was more of  an ambush-type of attack on our officers," Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said, according to CBS News. "He knew we were coming and we obviously let him know that we were there." He had escaped from the mental health ward of a VA hospital in Wyoming in 2014 but was located and returned, according to a Veterans Affairs document obtained by The Associated Press Tuesday.

abcnews Riehl attended the Wyoming College of Law in Laramie. Law college students had been warned about Riehl because he criticized law professors in social media posts.  A Nov. 6 email from Assistant College of Law Dean Lindsay Hoyt told students to notify campus police if they spotted Riehl or his car near campus,  Campus officers called police in Lone Tree, Colorado, in mid-November to warn them about Riehl, suggesting his rants were indicative of mental illness, UW Police Chief Mike Samp told The Denver Post. Riehl was licensed as a lawyer for five years in Wyoming and voluntarily gave up his license in 2016,  practiced at a law firm in the small city of Rawlins and later opened his own practice but withdrew from the bar in October 2016, making him ineligible to practice law in the state, Wilkinson said. That's the same year records indicate he moved back to Colorado.  Wilkinson says the bar received no complaints about Riehl mediaite {Riehl’s Facebook page also showed he was angry towards the University of Wyoming law school, which he graduated from in 2010. According to CNN, the school recently alerted faculty and students due to what they saw as “suspicious behavior” from Riehl.   According to a letter sent to faculty and staff in November, Riehl posted “rambling, nonsensical messages on his Facebook page” that specifically mentioned the school. Campus police and the Laramie Police Department were both alerted to the posts. The faculty was asked to alert authorities if Riehl was spotted on campus.}

a cop-killer in Colorado, where dope is legal, was high on marijuana.
Here’s the story from Colorado Community Media:
The man who killed Douglas County Sheriff's Office Deputy Zackari Parrish had alcohol and a large amount of marijuana in his system during a Dec. 31 shootout with law enforcement in Highlands Ranch.
That's according to the Douglas County Coroner's report for Matthew Riehl, released Feb. 27. Riehl, who was eventually killed by a SWAT team, opened fire from behind his closed bedroom door on sheriff's office deputies, including Parrish, who were attempting to place him on a mental health hold…
Toxicology findings show Riehl had three times the legal limit for driving of marijuana in his systemThere were 15 nanograms of delta-9 THC — the chief intoxicant in marijuana — in his blood. The legal driving limit for marijuana is 5 nanograms, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation website.
His blood alcohol concentration was .03, less than half the legal limit for driving in Colorado.
