According to Orient News (in) , an information website of the Syrian opposition, Vanessa Beeley would have decontextualized the scene of a field hospital, during a conference in Bristol, to legitimize violence and suffering 13 . Malak Chabkoun, from the Qatari Al Jazeera , writes that Beeley is willing to engage in a "money-laundering" operation for crimes committed by the Assad regime and its allies. 18

According to screenshots of a private conversation on Twitter she would be perfectly aware of the tortures committed by the Syrian regime but would refuse to state it publicly 6 .
Polemic about White Helmets [ edit | change the code ]
Vanessa Beeley denigrates the non - governmental organization of the Syrian White Helmets through its articles and conferences. In addition to claiming that their actions would serve US policy to change regime in Syria 12 or to demonize Russian intervention 20 , it also accuses them of terrorism, describing them as close to jihadist movements such as the front al-Nusra or Daesh 7 , even al-Qaeda 11 , 21 , or even NATO 22 , 20 . She believes that the organization has developed in other countries, such as Venezuela, Malaysia or the Philippines, and is an agent of "American colonialism, British imperialism, European globalism, extremism. Gulf countriesand Israeli parasitism " , which would make White Helmets " legitimate targets " 22 , 1 for military strikes, in direct violation of international humanitarian law. 2 Beeley speaks at a conference of the Assad cabinet entitled " White Helmets: Fact or Fantasy? ".
At the UN , during a debate on Khan Sheikhoun 's Syrian attack of April 4, 2017, following the publication of a joint report by the UN and the OPCW accusing the Syrian government of the attack , Pyotr Ilyichev , Russia's representative to the United Nations, presents Beeley's presentation 17 (" The White Helmets - Fact or Fiction "), the Russian representatives concluding that "their work was based on indirect testimony, most of which were provided by the opposition and by NGOs that have no credibility, such as the White Helmets who are closely associated with al-Nusra terrorists. " 22 For Eliot Higgins , demonizing the organizations best placed to collect information on chemical attacks and other war crimes has become a key strategy, and Vanessa Beeley is "at the center of the effort to discredit the White Helmets" 22 ".
Several media have shown that these accusations are unfounded, and that a campaign against the organization of the White Helmets has been put in place, probably following the proposal of this organization to the Nobel Peace Prize in 2016 7 . The Guardian publishes in December 2017 a comprehensive study of the "propaganda machine" concerning attacks against White Helmets, involving in particular Vanessa Beeley 23 , considered the most active on social networks 11 , and in close links with other propagandists like Eva Bartlett or Carla Ortiz 24 , 9 . She had echoed a video showing a simulation of white helmet intervention during their participation in the Mannequin Challenge , stating that the video cast doubt on the veracity of the other videos broadcast by the rescuers 11 . The Killing the Truth study, whose information is included in Der Spiegel 9 , also echoes this misinformation campaign. Snopes , an anti-hoax website, concludes 25 that "the accusations seem [driven] on the basis of political motives, not evidence. Eliot Higgings considers that they are victims of propaganda because "the importance of the White Helmets is precisely that their evidence allows us to expose the civil suffering caused, and denied, by the Russian government. 25 , 20 . Scott Lucas adds that this also has the effect of legitimizing attacks against them 17 . The Swiss section of Reporters Without Borders resigned in December 2017 from the Swiss Press Club , after unsuccessfully demanding the cancellation of a conference on the organization of the Syrian White Helmets 26 , subsidized by the Club, organized by its director Guy Mettan , and programming an intervention by Vanessa Beeley 27 . Mettan, pro-Putin, supports the work of Beeley 7 .
